Amridge University History

HISTORY

1942  : Rex A. Turner, Sr., Leonard Johnson, and Joe Greer became a co-founder of the Montgomery Bible School in Montgomery, Alabama.

1954  : The name of the school was changed to Alabama Christian College.

1967  : The new company was formed under the name Alabama Christian School of Religion.

1974  : Moved to a new facility and purchased by the Alabama Christian School of Religion and Church Landmark Christ in Montgomery, AL.

1987  : Built a new campus in Montgomery, AL.

1989 : Receiving accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to provide the degree and master's degree level.

1991 : Board of Regents formally approved the change of name of the institution Southern Christian University.

1992 : Expands the curriculum by adding a Doctor of Ministry degree and far-distance learning programs.

2002  : Purchase of 185 acres of land along Interstate 85, which is located 15 kilometers from the main campus to accommodate future growth.

2002  : Selected by the US Department of Education to help pilots Distance Education Program

2003 : Southern Association of Colleges and Schools approved the Doctor of Philosophy degree program

2006  : Southern Association of Colleges and Schools approved the Associate of Arts degree program.

2006  : Purchase of additional land for the new campus, with a total of 650 acres.

2008  : Southern Christian University Board of Regents changed the name of the institution for Amridge University.
