Arcadia University

History

Arcadia University achieved the status of the college in 1872 and was named Beaver College. Changes in time, the city changed, even college changed. In 1925, Beaver College moved east to Jenkintown, Pa., Where he attract more students.

This location is given a larger facility, more adequate campus and greater opportunities for development. The change resulted in an increase in enrollment.

Additional properties are clearly needed for the expansion of the College. In the fall of 1928, the Supervisory fortunate in securing the nearest land is located in Glenside, Pa., And is known as Grey Towers. With large tracts of land and building stone, it provides a dignified and beautiful campus. College run together, in Jenkintown and Glenside campus in the mid-1960s, when the consolidation of all activities to Grey Towers property, in Glenside, Philadelphia metropolitan suburb.

Initially under the auspices of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Arcadia University never maintain the historic relationship with the Presbyterian Church (USA), but independently controlled and ecumenical in spirit.

In the summer of 2000, the Supervisory Board approved the historic decision to change the name and status of the school to Arcadia University.

Arcadia University has grown significantly from a small school, liberal arts college serving traditional students, for a comprehensive university serving more than 4,000 students in bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs. The University also operates one of the study abroad program the largest in the United States.
